Alex over at Army Of Dude is the most important of all of the bloggers I read daily. That isn’t to say that the other voices I listen to each day aren’t important, just saying this guy has served us in Iraq and his blog takes the hands on approach to opposition of this situation we all are involved in. He brings us things he feels are important on a regular basis and also lets us see, through photos, what our troops are going through while serving in the middle east.
He and his best girl are now in the process of moving from Washington state to Austin, Texas. (thats why his last post was a week ago) I wish them the safest of moves and the easiest acclimation that Austin can offer.
His move made me think about the good times I have had in both Washington and Austin. In my opinion the Austin music scene sooooooo outshines any of the music scenes in Seattle or anywhere else the great state of Washington have to offer.
One of my favorite blues/country/rock bands currently playing with Austin as their home is The Mother Truckers. Here is a vid of their view of the “Human Condition”.
As an aging pinko-hippie-peace freak who has been told “Go back to Russia” more times than I can count, I have a lot of opinions. Valid opinions as far as I can tell at least. I speak and write my opinions to anyone who wants to listen, and even to some who don’t.I am usually not afraid to let someone know what is on my mind at any given moment.I strongly disagree with the invasion, war and occupation in Iraq. But there are voices out there that come from folks even more qualified to give their opinion. See, I have never been a military member and have no first hand knowledge of things warlike. A lot of the voices speaking from the blogosphere are veterans. I think they have a bigger right to express their opinion about Iraq and the US involvement than a non-vet like me. They have all been defenders of my right to speak however and I am very proud to be associated with them however distant we are.
They all took an oath to defend the country they serve(ed) against all enemies both foreign and domestic. The domestic terrorists that are undermining our nation the most are officials in Washington. These vets who are blogging their disgust and anger are taking that oath to heart. Through the words and images posted on their blog sites they are doing their part to protect us from the administration. I personally feel they are standing up for the oath they took to make sure we all are safe at home. I want to thank each of them for the sacrifices they gave to serve the American people and the Constitution.
I started a special area of my blogroll today. It is only sites that are written by veterans who have served at any time in the United States Armed Forces. I call it “Veterans With Open Eyes”. The whole idea started when I became a daily reader of the blog Alternate Brain. I thank those folks for providing me with most of the links I have posted in this new section. I found another blog called Army Of Dude that I like and read often. This one is written by a veteran from Iraq and he brings us a pictorial dialogue of the hell he and his fellow soldiers lived through in the War On Terror. My old online buddy Buzz is a Viet Nam vet with openminded views of todays life in these United States. There are so many more that I haven’t mentioned individually in this post but whose writings are equally important.
The list of veterans who blog is much longer than the ones I have posted and I’m sure there are many more out there. I would appreciate you letting me know of others that are on your lists so I can also post their links. These voices are valuable in our fight for truth and peace so lets share them as much as possible. Thank you in advance for visiting these blogs and also for sharing more veterans links with me.
Although I have been remiss in being a proper blogger and haven’t been posting diligently, most of the others have been. Now on Saturday night I have a feeling of non-productivity so I have tried to get something done. But…(dadgum buts)…I can’t get any clear thoughts out so I am going to try to pass some other folk’s creativity along. Bear with me for a bit and I will get my wind back. For now follow these links for news and commentary of the week.
Last Sunday The Political Cat told us her opinion about the links between Cheney, Bush and Nouri al Maliki. Even though she has been changing routines with her meds she was able to point out the costs of this war in lives, money and extending tours for our troops and how the leaders are behind it.
ViceZilla brings us the stink from San Francisco, the birthplace of my favorite band the Grateful Dead, where they are considering naming a fitting monument to George W.Bush.
Stephen was drinking liberally in New Milford when he passed along rumors of Hillary suspending her campaign and added the beer back to his whiskey with a link to a funny video called Mrs. C.
Buzz gave a moving non Believers tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King over at Buzz Daly Sez.
I wonder if he is shunned because of his ineptitude dealing with the dignitaries. Do you think maybe he is also alone because of the fact he supported the liars who led America and the rest of the world into this huge debacle that has cost so many lives, limbs and dollars? I think the fact the death toll is so high in Iraq because of the lies was the reason he was greeted the way he was when he threw the first pitch of the season for the Washington National’s last Sunday. I love this footage as I believe the sentiment shown will also be shown in November to Senator John McSame.
There is a new blog on the web. So new that todays post is the first. I may not usually recommend a blog on its first day but I kinda know the writer.
A while back I became a semi regular visitor to a forum based out of some obscure left coast town. A coastal city that is a haven for homeless folks, trendy tourists and thinking folks from far left to extreme right on the political spectrum. The scene of the opening volley fired in the war against medical marijuana and the first victory in that war. A university town with a liberal group of students and faculty that would rival Berkley in the early 70’s. A place where cultures collide at the boardwalk, local music clubs an on the mall that was resurrected from the ‘89 quake. A place I once called home. Buzz posts on that forum regularly.
Living in such a strange little town our friend has seen a lot. His experiences there, and the other places he has been, have shaped his outlook on life. I have looked forward to his, and his other ego Ben Dejo’s, writings about whatever topic is being debated on that forum. With his wit and humorous outlook on life he presents his views with an insight that only experience can bring. If his new blog is anything like the postings on that forum it will be worth the read. I’m adding it to my blogroll.
Although he is just giving it a test ride right now I am sure his creative mind will make this a great site. Read it today at Buzz Daly Sez
I haven’t been as lively when it comes to posting lately. Things have been a blur in my part of Roswell the past few days. I have been spending a lot of time writing for tomorrows blogswarm edition of Alien Trucker. While writing my post many emotions have come back to me and tears have been flowing from this old hippies heart and eyes. It has been heart wrenching to put these words on “paper” and sometimes the crying gets more attention than the writing. The emotions my story brings to me has been blinding me to current news and my usual rants. The post will be long so set aside about 10 minutes of your busy day to read it if you are so inclined.
It has been 5 long costly years since the Bushco agents sent our military to attack Iraq and what a horrible occupation it has been since. At this point there are 274 bloggers signed up to post in unison about this insane war based on the lies of those we are supposed to trust. I encourage you to follow the link above and read as many different opinions as you can. Then let your voice be heard by writing/calling your congresspersons and let them know how you feel about the war on freedom in Iraq. The war on our freedom as well as theirs is horrible with at least 3990 of our troops killed and up to a million Iraqis slaughtered as well.
My opinion is and will be that we MUST defeat McCain and his proposal to spend 100 years or more occupying Iraq. Vote Democratic Party as the crooks there have a better chance of getting elected than any honest politician. Then we MUST demand the new officials BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW AND STOP THIS SENSELESS KILLING FOR BUSHCO!
sorry about all of that yelling. It’s just time to do it.
I am trying to get the hang of this blogging thing. I am pretty illiterate in all things computer and am fumbling around learning how to do the stuff that the rest of the bloggers do. Like list multiple links in the same post without having them all turn into the first one posted…stuff like that.
With that in mind I am going through my blogroll and mentioning all of them. If I post all links in different articles it is twofold. One; I want each of them to get the recognition they deserve. Two; I don’t know how to do it any other way, yet.
One of the blogs I like to visit often I discovered on the Blogroll Amnesty Day weekend. I like the presentation of his ideas. you can find plenty of links to stories from a wide spectrum of views. David Weisman writes daily using The Art Of Peace.
Stephen from New Milford, Connecticut was the first blogger that exchanged blog rolls with me. I added him early on in my try at blogging. I felt he had a lot to say and presented it very well. I was totally surprised that a blogger of his esteem would add me in return. I wondered at first why someone so well spoken would put a stumbler such as I on his blog roll. Then when he commented on my site I realized he read my stuff and liked it enough to return and read at other times. (made me feel good that he didn’t just return the blog roll favor.)
I enjoy the way he presents his topics and is in no way afraid to “out” fraudulent politicians (especially the right wing ones) on misdeeds and lies. He provides many links to back up his opinion and is talented in the art of getting his point across. I really hope my readers will go check out Drinking Liberally In New Milford.
I haven’t paid much attention to the news over the weekend. Just babbling about Huckabee dividing the nation and black people pushing for Obama. The race card has been played hard lately but Clinton has gotten hurt from whoever is voting for Barack. Bad enough that she felt the need to change campaign managers in the middle of the stream. Aging bald dudes seem to be working for the change Obama promises by the looks of things at the Rotus Ranch.
Clark, the head rancher over there also has a nice blog with music reviews. Go check it out at Clarks Picks.
Last Sunday was not just Super Bowl Sunday but as you know it was also Blogroll Amnesty Day. Bloggers took some time to meet others online and share links to each others ideas and opinions in their blogrolls. I participated and met some other good folks with opinions that span a spectrum from politics to jazz reviews. One of the blogs that I share blogroll links to now is The Political Cat.
The staff there decided to feature those who added the blog in a little blurb in their blog. What with my lack of knowledge in the ways of the computer I have not been able to comment personally on their postings. So I couldn’t thank them personally on the posting of a nice article about my blog. Therefore I decided to steal The Cat’s idea of posting an article about bloggers that were met on B.A.D..
Since the idea came from there I want to make the first of these posts about that blog. The Political Cat posts articles about politics, holidays and of course cats. It is a well put together and insightful site. I recommend you visit there often and check out the fresh ideas.
Since it’s the Year Of The Rat I’m sure the Political Cat will be kept busy. Happy New Year.
