Now the Department Of Homeland Security is proposing that all airline passengers wear a bracelet. A bracelet that has a tazer like action that can immobilize the wearer. It also carries personal information on the passenger and has a GPS imbedded. No boarding pass needed while you wear it.
Yayyyyyyy! Another way to discourage people from flying while infringing on our privacy yet again. Who knows who has the technology to read the info and the ability to set the tazer off?
Total insanity for sure. People are supposed to feel more secure with these things. I would think the forced wearing of these things would make them even more paranoid. (especially if copies of Orwells 1984 was placed in the pocket on the back of the seat in front of you)
There are people I know (I was raised by a old fashioned fundamentalist preacher) that consider this the “Mark of the Beast”. There are other, thinking people, who just see it as another invasion of our private lives. I will be totally surprised if anyone sees this as just a small inconvenience. This could be the end of the airline industry. With all of the problems they already have think how it will be when no one wants to fly anymore.
Christopher Hitchens’ words about waterboarding. Not just idle accusations but firsthand experience.
Vanity Fair asked him if he would agree to get the waterboard experience administered by members of the waterboarding experts, our very own Special Forces. Watch the video of his experience here. Seems like the music itself would make me feel tortured.
While the right wing and the current administration advocate it and say it is not torture those who have been waterboarded seem to have a differing opinion.
Seems like all of the biggies (AP, Reuters, ABC, NBC….) have chucked the very newsworthy story about Rep. Dennis Kucinich and his articles for impeaching George.
Ted got on his Soapbox 2.0 to talk about drugs and our soldiers. No…not that fine Afghani hash or the deadly opium and heroin available in the middle east, but about the prescription anti-depressants they are giving the troops. Maybe if they were smoking the hash they would be in a better mental state…naw…your mental health is gonna be horrible when death and suffering surrounds you. Especially when you are part of the cause of the suffering and your best buddy from The World just died in your arms.
As a former user of anti depressants I know that they “help” you cope with horrible life events by giving you an “I just don’t give a fuck” attitude about life…or death. What a handy tool for the government to keep problems down when the soldiers are told they are being flopped into another tour as part of the stop-loss backdoor draft. What a great stride to keeping the troops who invade homes filled with children and old folks in an I don’t care place of mind.
Last night during Clinton’s “concession” speech the crowd started chanting “Denver, Denver…”. She grinned that weird evil grin she has and shushed them with her hands. She knows she will be there…as the Veep candidate.
Another group is organizing a rally of sorts in Denver at the same time the DNC is in swing. (on a side note I thought it was epic that Obama picked the very spot the repubes are having their convention to give his speech last night) An organization calling themselves ReCreate 68. Why would anyone want to recreate the violence that prevailed outside the DNC in Chicago in 1968? I guess I am getting old because I don’t like being beaten by cops these days.
This time however the cops have a new weapon. The news calls it a “Buck Rogers Ray Gun. It uses heat and stops advancing peoplef rom up to a half mile away. One Fly wonders if they will use it in August.
I have resisted touching on the church crap that has been all over the news lately. Yeah, I know there have been many blogs and all too much “news” coverage of the events at Obama’s Trinity Church in Chicago. And an extreme difference in the amount of coverage of the crap McCain’s preacher friends Hagee and Parsley are spewing. While McCains supporters are spouting divisive crap Obama’s preacher is preaching unity and an end of hateful divisiveness.
Hagee has preached of the “anti Christ” Catholics saying they are not true Christians. Hagee must know about “true Christianity” considering his association with the Rev Louis Lamonica, pastor of the Hosanna Church of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Lamonica was a big supporter of Hagee back in the day and often quoted him from the pulpit. He made many “pilgrimages” to San Antonio to listen to seek “revival” from Hagee. Both are believers in the Pentecostal ways of worship and they share a lot of the same philosophy.
In April 2005 the good Reverend Lamonica walked into the sherrifs office there and started talking about what “Gawd” had started guilting him out about. He confessed to a string of Satanic ritual sexual assaults against children, some of them on an infant daughter of one of his parishoners who was also involved. Also being sexed up was a dog. By the end of it there were 9 more people implicated including the preachers wife, a sheriffs deputy and other parents of abused children who were all faithful members of the church. Many of the assaults were on kids under 8 by members of the church including their own parents. That kind of charge brings the death penalty in Louisiana. 7 indictments were brought.
Now I know Lamonica isn’t in a position to endorse McCain from his jail cell. Even if he were no one would listen to him. Not even the news. The newsies have made any links to McCain and his radical preachers (and their supporters) become a non issue. While making the pastor of Obama’s church into headlines.
So Catholics or Pentecostals, it doesn’t matter. Sex crimes, especially against children, by a “Man Of Gawd” are henious. I’m sure Rev. Wright agrees with me. I hope Hagee does too.
Update; the newsies are now saying that Obama has resigned his membership at Trinity. Whats up with that?
