Am I The Victim Or The Crime?

We Are Killing Our Own Soldiers

January 7th, 2008 by Rocky

I was reading in the news how 2 US soldiers were killed by an Iraqi soldier they were on a mission with. 3 more soldiers were wounded as well as an interpreter. Some say the killer was associated with Shiite militants while others say he was a Sunni. It doesn’t really matter which of the sects he was affiliated with, he killed them with weapons supplied by the United States government.

When the US invaded Iraq the big plan was to form an army of Iraqi soldiers and after training them leave the policing of their country to them. Most of the early army were Shiites. Later when it became clear the new army was lacking in both discipline and desire to do their jobs our military leaders decided to continue down the path blazed by “Shock And Awe”. Policing their country with our unwanted force.

The US military started arming the Sunni’s in 2007. Leaving the weapon training and general overseeing to the group they armed without US supervision has placed our weapons in the hands of warring factions. Working side by side with the Iraq Army our troops face uncertainty daily. Officially these killings by “friendly” forces is the second time it has happened. I tend to doubt that as the general reaction of our occupying their country is resentful to say the least.

Forming an army of their own makes sense. After our military destroyed the military of Saddam Hussein they needed a restructured military. After all there seems to have been some kind of factional conflict in their region for centuries. Every country should have some type of protection. Especially a new “democracy”.

The Sunni forces we armed have been sympathetic to al Quaida from the beginning. Most if not all of al Quaida’s members lean towards the Sunni way of practicing the Muslim religion. So besides arming a supposedly legitimate army we also gave weapons to their rivals. And left Americans in the crossfire. Does this really make sense?

Leaving our best citizens in the middle of a civil war where neither side likes anything to do with the United States, except the free guns and ammo we provide, is more than insane. Whoever authorized the arming of our enemies should be brought up on charges of treason. Putting our men and women into the dangers of a war that can’t be won to be injured or killed by weapons from their own leaders is wrong. The reasoning behind this is stupid.

But look at who the Commander In Chief is. Greed and stupidity is never a good combination.

I hope they bring our soldiers home soon.

Stumble it!
